Ron Desantis vs Disney

The political landscape in Florida has been quite interesting lately, particularly with regards to the relationship between Governor Ron DeSantis and Disney. As a politically moderate person, with a slight leaning towards the right, it’s safe to say that I have a unique perspective on this issue.

In April, Disney made headlines by publicly opposing the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” which aims to restrict discussions of LGBTQ+ issues in schools. This move was met with support from many of Disney’s employees, but not from DeSantis. The Governor was upset that the state’s largest single-site employer was no longer supporting him, and he decided to start a personal feud with the company.

DeSantis and the Right-controlled state congress tried to take over the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID), which governs the two Disney-owned cities of Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake. This move was partially successful, but Disney’s board managed to maintain control by forwarding all their power to the company before they left.

This feud has been ongoing for over a year now, and it’s beginning to feel like the people who work in the Disney area are being targeted. DeSantis has threatened to put a prison on Disney property and even suggested putting tolls on roads that cast members and contractors use to get to work. It’s no wonder that many of us feel like we’re caught in the crossfire.

In my opinion, this feud is unnecessary and counterproductive. Disney is a major employer in the area, and any action that negatively impacts the company will ultimately harm the people who work there. Additionally, Disney has been able to maintain its infrastructure in a way that doesn’t burden taxpayers. They do things more efficiently and with less red tape than the government, which is something DeSantis should consider.

Overall, this issue is complex and there are many different opinions on it. But one thing is for sure, we need to use facts and reason to have a productive conversation about it. As for me, I’m just hoping that everyone involved can come to a reasonable solution that benefits everyone in the long run. And maybe, just maybe, they can learn to have a little fun in the process – because let’s face it, this feud is starting to feel like a real-life version of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck going at it!
